Bergen Art Festival 2/10 - 10/11 2001

40 days of new art!

BergArt, Bergen Art Festival, is a new art festival that each autumn inundates the city with art and art events in new and surprising arenas. The first sprinkles of the Bergen Art Festival 2001 program are found in this folder. Already now the currents of this versatile and far-reaching festival are surging together; from the latest in Norwegian and international stage art, installations and drawings at Hordaland Kunstsenter, and the international film festival BIFF (in Bergen Cinema, incl. Latin American, documentary and "independent" film), to contemporary musicalizing children and youth, you-never-know-what's-going-to-happen Dog me Dig me concerts, rampaging drummers, and a city awash with authors.

The Bergen Art Festival is supported by the Norwegian Council of Culture and the City of Bergen Department of Culture. Through its participation in the Norwegian Council of Culture's "Room for Art" program, Bergen's efforts to establish a multi-institutional contemporary art festival are intended to create a model for other cities' endeavours in this area. The festival can also serve to actualise a principal idea of the Bergen 2000 European City of Culture agenda - that new projects receive an opportunity to continue on a permanent basis.
